Peso's Kitchen and Lounge (Lower Queen Anne)

Peso's Kitchen and Lounge is a spanish restaurant in Lower Queen Anne. They have great happy hour and really good chips and salsa. I had the Grilled Carne Asada enchiladas with the Roasted Tomatillo Sauce. The enchilada was made from masa corn tortillas = gluten free!

Evaluation: Good

- There were lots of gluten free options on the menu.
- The atmosphere was not that great. I was seated right near the front door where there was a cold draft after anyone walked in or out.
- The dinner menu price is expensive. I think it is only worth it if you got for happy hour.

The Honey Hole (Capitol Hill)

The Honey Hole has changed my life! Today I had "The Dude" on a gluten free baguette made by Olivia Superfree and it was amazing. Sandwiches haven't been the same since I had to go gluten free. I have found myself struggling to find good sandwich bread at different restaurants, sometimes I just give up and go bun-less on my burgers or settle for the lettuce wrap which inevitably falls apart. But today, I had a sandwich on gluten free bread and it was perfect! The baguette was soft and fresh, held together perfectly, absorbed the flavor and juices from the meat, and best of all it was crunchy like a real baguette should be!

Thank you Honey Hole - you have made sandwich eating fun again!

For all my gluten free friends (and non- gluten free friends), I would recommend THE HONEY HOLE!

Evaluation: Excellent!

 - great gluten free baguette!
- excellent flavor and texture
- fairly priced

Note: this is the first Excellent rating I have given any restaurant (so far).

I hope you try it out and let me know what you think!

Shiki Japanese Restaurant (Lower Queen Anne)

Sushi! I love eating sushi! I have found myself avoiding the smaller sushi places because I am worried they don't have gluten free soy sauce. But Shiki Japanese Restaurant, a very small and probably family operated restaurant has gluten free soy sauce. They have an organic gluten free soy sauce called Tamarind, it was pretty good but it was really dark in color. However, it tasted like normal soy sauce.

Evaluation:

Shiki Japanese Restaurant = Good

- I would go there again, they had very fresh sushi and great green tea.
- However, they are really pricey for a small sushi place without much ambiance and okay staff that had to be reminded to bring us the rice we ordered.

Veraci Pizza (Ballard)

I have been to Veraci's many times to enjoy their ultra-thin crust gluten free wood-fired pizza. It is probably the best thin crust gluten free wood-fired pizza in town, but it is still no New York Style pizza.
Their gluten free pizza is tasty, has great crunch, and good texture. The sauce to cheese ratio is just right and they don't skimp on the toppings. Most recently, I order a large gluten free pepperoni and mushroom pizza and enjoyed it with some friends.

The thing about thin crust pizza is that you can eat more slices than you would a regular crust pizza. Which is okay if you don't mind spending a little more for the large or extra large pizza.

Veraci Pizza is my go-to pizza place in town! Try it out and let me know what you think!
500 NW Market Street, Ballard (206) 525-1813

Evaluation:

Veraci Pizza = GOOD!
- one of the downsides to thin crust pizza is that it gets cold very quickly.
- worth the extra cost for the gluten free crust.

Masala of India (Northgate)

I went to Masala of India to enjoy some Indian food. This place is wonderful, it has a brand new interior and free parking, not to mention some amazing gluten free food. Indian food is traditionally gluten free, as most of the meals are stews over basmati rice. Indian food is also great to share family style.

Here is a list of the items we shared: (All gluten free)

Butter Chicken: Pieces of chicken seared in the Tandoori over, then braised in a creamy tomato sauce with nuts. Includes Basmati Rice
Lamb Saag: Lamb cooked with indian spices and fresh spinach.
Chicken Tikka Masala: Boneless chicken, barbecued in the Tandoori over, then cooked in a sauce of tomato and onion. Includes Basmati Rice

Check out Masala of India and let me know what you think.

Evaluation:

Masala of India = Good

- Needs better labeling: The menu does not indicate whether foods are gluten-freet and the staff doesn't speak english very well so they were not helpful. If you are extremely sensitive to gluten, I would stay away from this place.

Stopsky's Delicatessen (Mercer Island, WA)

Stopsky's is a small restaurant on Mercer Island. I went there for lunch and enjoyed their lunch special, half corned beef sandwich on (GF bread) with a simple green salad.
Half sandwich and a cup of soup or simple green salad (no substitutions)11
Choice of pastrami, corned beef, roast beef, turkey, egg or tuna salad (Served M-F 11am-2pm)
I was surprised by the thickness of the sandwich, they did not skimp on corned beef! The amount of corned beef was great but the gluten free bread they used was far too delicate to be able to hold all of the weight of the corned beef in the sandwich. The bread fell apart after two bites and I had to take some corned beef out of the sandwich to lighten it up.

Evaluation:
Stopsky's = Good

- there is room for improvement on the type of bread they use
- they should offer some gluten free soup options as there were none on the day I visited.

Check out Stopsky's and let me know what you think:

Welcome

Hello and Welcome to my Seattle Gluten Free Travels Blog. This blog is my way of enjoying the fact that I must eat Gluten Free. Since 2011 I have been forced to cut back and now eliminate eating all of my favorite foods: PIZZA, Baguettes, and almost all French food.
I am a native New Yorker and in New York Pizza is one of the most important foods you can eat and no where in the world can you find amazing Pizza like you can in New York. (Sorry Chicago, you got nothing!) For years I spent time learning the Art of French cooking...and the main ingredients in any french dish are: Flour, Egg, and Milk. As you can probably tell by now, food is very important to me.

So you can follow this blog and read about all of the places that have excellent, good, bad, or horrible gluten free options. And maybe, just maybe one day I can find gluten free pizza that is half as decent as pizza from New York.
